Prosecutors can charge one fight several ways. Under the 2026 Los Angeles County bail schedule, some charges carry $0 bail and others a dollar amount you can bond for a 10% premium.
Assault means an unlawful attempt, with present ability, to injure another person. PC 241(a) caps the penalty at six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both. In the 2026 schedule it is Book and Release: $0 bail after booking.
Willful, unlawful force or violence against another person counts as battery, with up to six months in jail, a $2,000 fine or both. It carries $0 Book and Release, though a person on felony probation or parole goes to Magistrate Review.
Battery on a peace officer, firefighter, EMT or other listed worker performing their duties, when the person knows or should know their role, carries up to one year in jail. The schedule lists it as Magistrate Review, so a magistrate decides on release.
Serious bodily injury under the statute includes a concussion or a bone fracture. Prosecutors can file this charge as a misdemeanor, listed as Magistrate Review, or as a felony, which the 2026 felony schedule lists as serious, with $50,000 bail.
This is battery against a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, co-parent or dating partner. PC 1270.1 lists it, so $0 release does not apply: the misdemeanor schedule sets $20,000, and only a judge in open court can change it.
Any deadly weapon or instrument except a firearm counts. Filed as a felony, it is a serious felony with $30,000 bail, and PC 1270.1 bars $0 release before an open-court hearing. As a misdemeanor filing, it goes to Magistrate Review.

Assault Bail Bond FAQ
These answers come from the 2026 Los Angeles County schedules and the California statutes behind them. Give us the exact charge and code section, and we will check it before you pay anything.
Simple assault and battery carry $0 Book and Release, and misdemeanor domestic battery is $20,000. Felony assault with a deadly weapon is $30,000, so the standard 10% premium comes to $3,000, and eligible clients may qualify for 8%.
Yes, when the charge carries a bail amount, such as felony PC 245(a)(1) or domestic battery, and we can post it once you sign. Magistrate Review charges follow another path: a magistrate may release the person, add conditions or hold them until arraignment, and we cannot post a bond before then.
Without a warrant, only if the schedule lists a dollar amount. A Book and Release charge carries $0 bail, but felony probation, parole or PRCS moves it to Magistrate Review, where we cannot post a bond. On a warrant, a judge sets bail under PC 815a. See our Pre-Arraignment Release Protocol guide.
At the standard 10% premium, a $1,000 bond costs $100. Paying the whole amount in cash is the other route: under PC 1297, a relative who deposits it gets it back in full after judgment, within 10 days of claiming it with the receipt, if the defendant makes every court date.
Late payments are a contract debt. Missing court, which lets a judge forfeit the bond, or a surrender can put someone back in custody. An agent who surrenders someone before a court date must refund the premium under 10 CCR 2090, keeping limited costs only if it shows a substantially increased risk.
