Under Penal Code 1295, you can hand the full bail to the court clerk, and the jail releases your relative. If they make every hearing, you get it all back after judgment; Penal Code 1297 takes fines only from a defendant’s own deposit.
Police may deliver a minor to a probation officer, who must release the child to a parent unless Welfare and Institutions Code 628 allows detention. If the officer keeps the child, a judge holds a detention hearing. Bail applies only in adult court.
Book and Release covers a misdemeanor DUI under Vehicle Code 23152, so your relative leaves without a bond. A DUI that injures someone, Vehicle Code 23153, needs a magistrate’s review first. After a $0 release, the arraignment judge can still set money bail.
Robbery under Penal Code 211 is a serious and violent felony with no zero-dollar release. The 2026 county schedule lists first-degree robbery at $100,000. Some other felonies carry $0 or go to Magistrate Review, so we check the code section first.
