Police may release a minor, cite them or deliver them to probation (Welfare and Institutions Code 626). A held child goes free within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays, unless prosecutors file a wardship petition. Only a transfer to adult court brings bail.

It lasts until the case closes and the court exonerates, or releases, it. Penal Code 1305 also ends it if a judge dismisses the case or no complaint follows within 15 days of arraignment, a window the court can extend to 90 days. Penal Code 1276.1 keeps the cost at one premium.
